This steatite grinding media are more efficient & cost effective where fine grinding is very important process, just like in paints, ceramic, stains, ceramic glasses, Granite minerals and other industries.
Easy & quick grinding saves the electricity, the energy & time. Many factors like R.P.M. of Ball Mill, size & initial Raw materials, hardness of Raw materials, Ratio of Grinding Media to material & water, quality of Grinding Media & Lining Bricks – i.e. hardness, bulk density & abrasion loss, play an important roll in adequate grinding.
This steatite Grinding Media has ability to ground the material having hardness, up to 7 moh’s. Materials like Frits, feldspar, quartz, traditional bodies, glass & paints can be ground easily within a short grinding period.
Steatite Grinding Media & lining Bricks are resistance to all acids and alkalis. (Except Hydrofluoric Acid). This Grinding Media and Lining Bricks are fully Vitrified, having water absorption less than 0.05% and can be used in vibrating & rotary devices for surfaces working of metal, ceramics, plates & wood. |

Steel grinding media ball, beads, shots, ball cones and cylinders are manufactured in various alloy steel compositions, shapes and sizes for diverse grinding and milling applications.
This steel grinding media for ball mills pulverizes and attritors is cold forged and ground.
The hardened steel balls (shots, beads) are available in different hardness, as required, in both high carbon steel and chrome alloy steel. For specific applications, stainless steel media and balls are also used for grinding and milling.
Steel forged grinding media, hardened, is very suitable wherever high wear and chemical resistance is required. Also where generation of heat is crucial to the milling and dispersion process.
The steel shots, balls and beads - ball mill media - are preferred for contamination free and speedy (dry / wet) milling, grinding of solids, liquids dispersion and fine particle size reduction, homogenization of fillers and raw materials, attrition and pulverizing applications in ball, vibro, dyno, pearl, bead, pebble, attritor and small-media mills, vertical or horizontal.
Alloy steel media is particularly suitable, because of its high relative density and hardness, for crushing and mixing heavy and hard materials. Also where high pressure and impact grinding or crushing methods are employed. The forged steel media balls also find advantage in reducing particle size and fine dispersion of highly viscous fluids.
Stainless steel balls and other shapes are used for grinding applications where absolutely no iron contamination is permissible, specially in food products. |

Steel balls for chocolate grinding (stainless, inox, hardened chrome)
In the case of chocolates, the optimal size for cocoa particles is approximately 12 microns. Your tongue has the ability to feel texture. If the particles are too big, say 20 to 75 microns, then your tongue would sense an unpleasant roughness. If the particles are too small, say 1 to 9 microns, the cocoa particles would bind up more of the expensive cocoa butter. This would add cost to the process for more butter would have to be added to keep the product fluid.
The bead mills used for cocoa mass are vertical bead mills, using 5 to 6 mm or 1/4" and 3/16" diameter steel balls, beads or shots. Other sizes used vary from 8 mm to 11 mm or 5/16" to 7/16". Chocolate manufacturers use stainless steel (inox) media where absolutely no iron contamination is permissible and otherwise hardened chrome alloy steel balls.
Chocolate is very viscous. Because of the high density, no contamination, reasonable cost and lack of wear of steel media, the chocolate companies essentially use passivated steel balls as grinding media for chocolate paste in ball mills |

Material of alloy steel grinding media :
► Chrome or chromium alloy steel.
AISI 52100 / SUJ 2 / En 31.
► High carbon steel.
AISI 1085 / C85.
Thorough hardened to 58 - 63 HRc,
Rockwell C.
Custom hardness also possible
► Stainless steel or Inox, AISI 304 / 316 / 302 is used where absolutely no iron contamination is permissible. These austenitic steel are unhardenable by heat treatment. Some work hardening and strengthening takes place during cold forging process.
Stainless steel has excellent resistance to corrosion. The stainless steel grinding media is thoroughly passivated to clean it of any carryover iron particles. |

Surface finish and tolerance of steel grinding balls and shots : Ground and Lapped
For spherical ball, tolerance and surface finish as per AFBMA Grade 1000 is acceptable.
The diameter tolerance for Grade 1000 is;
Ball Diameter Tolerance (Ovality Per Ball): 0.001" or 0.0254 mm or 25.40 microns.
Basic Diameter Tolerance (Ball To Ball Variation): +/- 0.005" or +/- 0.1270 mm or +/- 127 microns.
Ground and Polished
This is acceptable where high quality is not required.
Basic Diameter Tolerance (Ball To Ball Variation): +/- 0.01" or +/- 0.25 mm or +/- 250 microns.
Steel grinding ball and media: ►
Used mainly for pulverizing, fine milling and grinding of products and reducing particle size.
► Application areas:
Grinding media for cocoa, chocolate liquor; Details...
Metal powders (aluminum, copper, ferric oxide), inks, paints and pigments, face powder (talc).
► Both high carbon high chrome steel ball (EN 31 / AISI 52100 / SUJ-2) and
stainless steel balls AISI 304 (SAE / SUS) is used.
► Grade 1000 balls are used having diameter tolerances as under:
Ball Diameter Tolerance (Ovality Per Ball): 0.001" or 0.0254 mm or 25.40 microns.
Basic Diameter Tolerance (Ball To Ball Variation): +/- 0.005" or +/- 0.1270 mm or +/- 127 microns.
► To reduce grinding costs, eclipse - steel ball with slight flattening at the poles , can be used.
Since these steel metal balls are not spheres or perfectly round, the price is substantially lower
without effecting the efficiency unduly.
Stainless steel media and also chrome, high carbon and inox vibro finish steel media which are versatile burnishing tools used in mass finishing machines for polishing applications. Used in combination with burnishing chemicals, an appropriate steel media mixture - of spheres (round balls), eclipses (flat end balls), diagonals (bevelled cylinders), pins, satellites and ballcones - is run with the ferrous or non ferrous metal components in mass finishing equipment to achieve lustre, mirror finish or a single stage cleaning, light deburring and pre plate finish or polish.
